Quote of the Day…

Quote of the Day…

I’m obsessed with the weather… which you can tell by my many posts on the weather.

My mood is affected by the weather – like many other people.

But I find this quote to be hilarious and quite true. Especially for me!

Don’t knock the weather. If it didn’t change once in a while, nine out of ten people couldn’t start a conversation.

-Kin Hubbard

It’s Nearly Here!!!!

It’s Nearly Here!!!!

And what is that you ask???

SPRING!!! It’s just around the corner and I can smell it!!

This past weekend we were actually in the mid-50s and yesterday I think it got into the lower 60s! Woohoo! I was able to enjoy the weather a bit yesterday and got to go to the park and do some walking around – while taking pictures (of course)! I helped my friend Jamie to take engagement photos of her brother who is getting married.

But the weather was gorgeous and we were at the park for a few hours until sunset, when the temperature then dropped and it got real cold so we got out of there fast! But, it was so wonderful to enjoy the wonderful weather.

Today is supposed to be a gorgeous day – but I’m inside and only starting at the blue skies from my office.

But springtime is sooo close! I’m ready to wear dresses and skirts and beautiful sandals! I’m so ready to retire my winter boots until next winter!!!

And next week, it’s the start of Daylight Savings Time! While I necessarily wouldn’t be cheering and celebrating losing an hours worth of sleep – I am excited for longer days. Longer days mean I’ll be able to leave work and still see the beautiful sun. And it also means more motivation to do things after work and to be outside more!

So, right now, I’m sending up a prayer that the weather continues to improve so I can spend more time playing outside. Thank you and amen. :-)

More snow…

More snow…

My apologies for constantly writing about the weather.

But as you saw from my previous post this past weekend we here in the Washington DC got nearly 3 feet of snow.

And right now – we are getting hit with another batch of snow – with at least another foot of snow expected with a possibility of 20 inches at most.

Can you tell that I am extremely tired of the snow?????? I want spring!!!! No more snow… pretty please?

At this point the snow is no longer pretty – it is just more snow that will get dirty and slushy and gross. I also haven’t been back to work since Thursday!! I have been working and just telecommuting. Which is fine – but I actually miss going into the office.

But this snow while it won’t bring as much snow the past snowfall over the weekend  did- it is still pretty bad – and the office will actually be closed tomorrow. As in, I won’t have to telecommute. Which I guess is nice.

I left my parent’s house last night and am back in my own home. Which is nice… it’s nice to sleep in my own bed and be back in my own place. However, I will no longer have my dad and brothers to shovel out my car… :-( I’m such a Daddy’s girl… oh well. I guess I’ll be shoveling on my own tomorrow.

But last night when I arrived home – I had to drag my bags up my neighborhood stairs… while you normally wouldn’t think that’s bad – well, what you don’t understand is the townhouse that my roommates and I live – it is the last house on the left (haha, like the movie) – and is at the top of the hill. At the end of the stairs. You have to walk up 80 (yes, 80) steps to get to my house. All I gotta say is if I don’t have buns of steel by the time my lease ends, I’ll be very disappointed in myself.

Anyway – walking up these stairs usually isn’t a problem – however, when covered in snow that hasn’t been shoveled – it is a very big problem. It was like climbing Mount Everest. I thought I was going to slip and fall and break my head open.  I’m not kidding. And right now as I type – another foot (or more) of snow is going to be accumulating on these stairs.

If you think I’m exaggerating – take a look at the pictures I took with my iPhone. I took these pictures today after I finished working out at the gym. And imagine climbing these stairs after doing an hour long cycling class… climbing those stairs is never fun after a workout.

The stairs of death… hahah – just kidding. What you don’t know is that I have to walk up a small hill to get to these stairs… but this is just the beginning.

So once you climb up the first step of stairs, you get to this landing… which actually has more stairs, though not as steep. Do you see all the snow piled up??? You have to catch your breath and then keep on climbing the stairs.

These are the last bit of stairs before you get to my house which is the last one on the left. And usually by the time I get to the door I am a bit out of breath… and after a long workout – well, my legs want to fall off.

And let me tell you – you don’t want to know how many times I’ve fallen down these stairs since I have moved here. It’s been bad…. They weren’t graceful falls either. So can you imagine how bad it is with snow in the mix??? I’m serious when I say it’s like climbing Mount Everest.

So, I’m not asking for the snow to stop just because I want spring, but because really, I’m scared for my life and falling down these stairs of death.

So sorry for the bad quality of pictures – they were taken by my iPhone… at night. And what you can’t tell in the pictures – it’s snowing.

Okay – hopefully this will be the last snow post of the month… until next winter at least!!

How To Keep A Fire Going…

How To Keep A Fire Going…

And not of the relationship variety… because – I’m not in one.

But to keep a fire going in a fireplace of course! A skill I’m proud of… knowing how to start a fire in a fireplace and how to keep it going all day and night long – as well as how to start a camp fire (using a lighter of course, not flint). This was a skill my Dad taught me when I was about 12-13 years old. He also taught me how to cut firewood… though I haven’t done it in years… another important skill to have.

Are you think I’m delirious writing about fires? Yes? I’m only talking about it because right before writing this post I made sure that the fire in the fireplace (duh) keeps going through the night – as it’s my source of heat in the room I’m staying in at my parents house! As the room I’m staying in is the living room since all the other rooms are taken by my other family members! The house is pretty much under construction (kitchen, dining room and basement) – and since I wanted to stay at the family house for the weekend, well – the only place to sleep is in the living room on the couch… with the fireplace as my source of heat… which is perfectly fine by me.

Anyway – it’s Sunday night/Monday morning and I’m up… writing this blog post. I can’t sleep… obviously… although after this this weekend, I wonder why.

Although I necessarily didn’t “do” much in terms of my regular running around, it was a fun/busy one.

The Washington DC area (and most of the mid-East Coast)  got hit by snow of epic proportions… as you saw in my previous post. Yesterday was spent hanging around the house, watching movies, studying, hanging out with family, and then the cable and internet went out. For more than 24 hours!!!! Which in actuality was fine with me, since it gave me a reason to stay off the computer and not watch trash TV (which I don’t do anyways).

The only thing about cable being out was – today was Superbowl Sunday… and my family is a huge football family and we were a bit concerned (freaked out) whether the cable would come back on in time for the game. The entire neighborhood was out if they had Comcast Cable. My good friend Jamie however, lives down the street and she has Verizon Fios and therefore if needed we would crash her house and watch the game there… but we were lucky enough for the cable to come back on at about 1pm today.. and then go right back out and then come back on at about 3pm… and stayed on. So our Superbowl watching at home was safe.

Today was busy – I got up early (like I usually do) and my Dad and I walked around outside so I could take pictures of the snow with the pretty blue skies as its backdrop. I got some pretty good photos which I was happy about. Then later Jamie came over – we, along with my sister and brother and Dad started to make an epic large snowman (what else would you do with so much snow?) that is about 7 feet tall (pictures to come)! Jamie and I also went around with our cameras to take more snow photos (can you tell I’m obsessed with photography?)…

Once snowman making was done along with photo taking – the Superbowl started and well – all my energies went into that. I was cheering for the Indianapolis Colts to win against the Saints… but that didn’t happen. :-( Oh well – I wasn’t mad the Saints won since it was their first Superbowl win… under normal circumstances I would have cheered for the underdog Saints – but I am a much bigger Colts fan. Oh well – it was a great game.

It’s nearly 1am, and while I’m tired – I can’t seem to sleep. I guess I’m lucky that I’ll be able to work from home tomorrow as I won’t be able to get to work. Pretty much everything in the area is shut down, including public transportation which is what I take to get to work. Oh well… working from my pajamas isn’t such a bad deal.

Let me try to get back to bed tonight… g’night!

Enjoy some more pictures I took today!

This was taken very early this morning… in very very cold temperatures.

My Dad, though not a photographer but VERY supportive of my photography hobby made sure I got outside early this morning and trekked through the snow with me. He trekked through the snow first so it was easier for me to walk through the nearly 3 feet of snow we got!

Jamie took this picture of me right before I feel backwards into the snow to make a snow angel.

Jamie is a recent photography enthusiast so it is great having her as someone to take pictures with!

Outside the house… we start the epic snowman building… can you see we are even using a ladder?

Picture was taken right at sunset… the colors were gorgeous. As soon as Jamie and I got our pictures though, we ran back to the house so we could get ready for the SUPERBOWL!!!
